EXPERT TALK ON SPACE PHYSIOTHERAPY

Faculty of Physiotherapy, SGT University organised an Expert talk on 13.10.2022 on the topic “Merges of space and physiotherapy- Past, Present and Future’. Our expert of the day was Mr. Nitin Kumar Arora.

Event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Pooja Anand (Dean, FPHY), after which  Dr. Ejaz Hussain (Dean, Allied Health Sciences) also addressed the students and explained them the importance of new emerging fields and technologies in Physiotherapy. Dr.Rakesh Sharma (Pro chancellor) also shared his experience with space nutrition and shared his words of wisdom with the crowd. It was Followed by lamp lightening ceremony.

Talk initiated with an introduction of the speaker. He invited Dr. Daniel Belavy who talked to us via video call and shared his insights. He talked about prevalence of IV Disc Herniation among Astronauts. Key points of today’s talk were changes in various bodily systems and postures, astronaut training programme and future perspectives in space PT. The highlight of the talk was various physiotherapeutic techniques that are required for astronauts while they are in space and space training that we teach the astronauts for injury prevention. After the talk Dr. Vikas Dhawan (Pro-vice chancellor- Academics) appreciated the expert and shared his experiences with the students. The event ended with the thank you note by Dr. Karishma Chawla (Assistant Professor)
